MB2-634 Passed! (Extending Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0)

Published by Phil at 11:50 am under Extending, MSCRM 4.0, certification

To follow up on my last post, MB2-634 Extending Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Has Released, I’ve finally gotten around to taking the exam — and I passed! I’d be happy to answer any questions about the exam within the limits of the exam non-disclosure agreement.

To prepare for the exam, I read through the Microsoft eLearning Course 8969 materials a couple of times the day before the exam and then just took it. I believe that you can access the course materials for free if you have a support contract with Microsoft, or you can pay $35 (until June 30, 2009) and buy the materials. The course material on the whole was pretty good. I think the topics covered were mostly applicable to real life. I’m not sure if I was working with an early release of the documentation or what, but my biggest complaint was that the grammar and typos were pretty horrendous in some sections. But whatever, that stuff isn’t important if the material is good.

My day-to-day work involves the material covered in this exam, so that’s probably why I got by on so little preparation. Microsoft’s MB2-634 Exam summary lists the topics covered in the exam. Of the topics covered, I found “Deployment Considerations” to be a pretty big part of the exam when considering how your extensions will work in the offline client. “Licensing Requirements” was a topic I forgot to study for, so be sure to read up on those.

All in all, I’d say this was my favorite exam since it was the most “real world” of the four MS CRM certs. I didn’t take the 3.0 version of this exam, so I can’t compare the two.

Don’t forget your Second Shot! I wouldn’t have taken such a chance with my limited studying if I didn’t have that safety net.

    Hi Phil,

Congratulations on passing the exam! I’d love to have a go at this one myself but as I’m not really a .Net person I think it would be way outside of my comfort zone!

Good to see you’re still updating the site too :-)

    Thanks Pete!

I don’t think one has to be a .Net person to do well on this exam, but I’ll admit that it would probably be hard to familiarize yourself with the concepts unless you’ve built a few .Net extensions.

In other news, I haven’t been completely lax. I’ve been doing some editing and writing over at my company blog http://www.altriva.com/AltrivaBlog/tabid/61/Default.aspx

We’re just getting started, but I’m proud of some of that content. It goes into more detail than I generally do here, plus our CRM director has lots of great insight.

Once the blog gets going, I’ll post a big entry here pointing folks over there.

    Hi Phil.
I’m confused a bit with this exam. Actually I’ve already passed several exams (mb2-631, 70-536, 70-528) and I’m going to earn Microsoft Certified Business Management Solutions Professional – Developer for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. But…

There is information about credentials to the mentioned certificate on the summary page of mb2-634 exam.
In the same time there isn’t any information about requiring mb2-634 exam on the summary page of MCBMSP – Developer for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. Instead of 634 exam, Exam MB2-498 (Extending Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0) is required (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/dynamics-crm-professional.aspx#section2).

Do you have any additional info about future credentials of this exam?

    Vovan,

I opened a case with Microsoft about this very issue over six months ago and they have completely ignored it. I have no idea what to tell you. My case is still open and they just won’t give me more information! I guess they laid off the person in charge of this stuff.

    Phil
